Frequently Asked Questions

RoboForm Enterprise vs. Single Sign-on (SSO)

Your approach sounds directly opposite to traditional SSO implementations. What is your approach and why is it so different?

Our philosophy is that we are not just delivering on a ‘promise’ like SSO, which typically are expensive, time-consuming and plagued with complexity. Because of the complexity required to ‘touch’ every system and application in your infrastructure, they rarely deliver on the promise of reducing logins down to one single password.

RoboForm Enterprise provides a simplified, secure, client-based alternative to SSO and truly eliminates the need for you to remember multiple passwords, reducing your logins down to one master password that allows a user to access and automatically log in to all of their applications.

Also, with traditional SSO, all passwords are stored in a central database, so if any unauthorized user gets access to the database, the entire enterprise will be compromised. Having to then reset all these passwords is a dubious and costly effort. Also, in a standard SSO implementation, you need to assemble all of your passwords for all users into the one central database, even if some of the users will never use many of the passwords. This is a very time-consuming process. RoboForm Enterprise offers a flexible, distributed architecture with no single point of attack. Other key benefits of RoboForm Enterprise include:

  • Encrypts and stores employee login information on individual clients, ensuring that no “keys to the kingdom” are available for phishers, keyloggers or hackers to compromise an enterprise’s password storehouse.
  • Is installed on individual clients, which makes the application highly available. As long as the client is working and applications to which the user needs to login are available, the software is operational.
  • Ensures security with each employees’ passwords stored using powerful AES encryption with a Master Password as a key. Each employee Master Password is known only to the employee, keeping RoboForm Enterprise unusable to an outsider who does not know the Master Password.
  • When a user enters a new password, it simply offers to save and store this new password for the employee.

And, RoboForm Enterprise is much cheaper and faster to implement. There are no expensive consultants required to evaluate and customize your entire application environment nor are complex changes to your backend infrastructure and applications required.
